'Safety of citizens top priority for discom'
India, July 12 -- Two days after a 25-year-old graphic designer was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire submerged in rainwater near Ghasola village in Gurugram, Ashok Kumar Garg - Hisar divisional commissioner and managing director of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN)- on Friday said that the safety of citizens remains the discom's priority.
Referring to the incident as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by compromised electrical infrastructure during the monsoon season, Garg stressed the need for urgent and coordinated efforts by officials and residents to prevent further tragedies caused by exposed wires, damaged poles, faulty transformers and waterlogged areas.
He said that ensuring the safety of common citizens is topmost priority, and the corporation is working towards making the power infrastructure safer and accident-free. Garg said that no person-whether a citizen or an employee-should be exposed to life-threatening risks from the electricity network.
To improve response time and ensure citizen participation, DHBVN has assigned the responsibility of safety enforcement to the executive engineer of each area. Citizens can now report any electrical safety hazard directly to the department through WhatsApp at 9050960500.
The discom's managing director appealed to residents to report dangers such as current leakage in broken poles, open electric wires, faulty transformer boxes, support wires, and meter enclosures....
