Haldwani, July 24 -- In a first of its kind initiative, an 'English lab' would be set up in US Nagar to make schoolchildren fluent in English using audio-visual tools.

Geetika Joshi, sub-divisional magistrate, Kashipur, said that till now, children in government primary schools were exposed to bookish English and they had no proper way of learning the nuances of spoken English. "Even if children could read English properly, they were not able to pronounce the words correctly or speak with fluency."

She said with the initiative, children up to class 5 will be able to learn spoken English through audio-visual tools and headphones. "This will help them to pronounce words correctly and acquire fluency," she said.
