Yuvraj Singh, Robin Uthappa summoned by ED in illegal betting app case
India, Sept. 17 -- After questioning Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has now summoned two more former India cricketers - Yuvraj Singh (43) and Robin Uthappa (39) - in connection with its money laundering investigation into illegal online betting platforms, officials said on Tuesday.
Robin has been asked to appear before the ED headquarters in Delhi on 22 September, while Yuvraj has been summoned for 23 September, to record their statements under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED has also been questioning a string of celebrities and public figures as part of its broader investigation. Former Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mimi Chakraborty appeared before the agency on Monday, while Bengali actor Ankush Hazra was being questioned on Tuesday. Actor Urvashi Rautela was also expected to appear on Tuesday, but had not recorded her statement till the time of filing this report. Actor Sonu Sood was also summoned by the ED in the same matter.
According to officials, these betting platforms have been accused of duping investors of crores of rupees and evading massive taxes. As part of the investigation, the agency is examining endorsement deals, communication patterns, and payments made to celebrities by these platforms. HTC...
