Why should you make grape leaves a part of your diet?
India, May 18 -- Grapes are juicy and nutritious, but did you know that their leaves offer many health benefits as well? Grape leaves are loaded with antioxidants and are also low in calories. They can be consumed fresh or stuffed with rice, vegetables and meat. Let's take a look at five of their benefits.
"These leaves are packed with flavonoids, phenolic acids, and vitamin C, which neutralise free radicals and reduce oxidative stress, which is a root cause of chronic diseases," says nutritionist Avni Kaul.
Calcium is not the only nutrient needed for healthy bones. Grape leaves are a rich source of vitamin K, which is essential for maintaining bone mineral density. It also helps prevent bone loss or fractures, especially in women at risk of osteoporosis.
Vitamin A and beta-carotene can also be found in grape leaves. "They support retinal function, prevent night blindness, and reduce the risk of age-related eye degeneration," says the expert.
These leaves are high in dietary fibre that promotes gut motility and prevents constipation.
Low in saturated fat and sodium, grape leavesprovide potassium and magnesium. "These help regulate blood pressure and reduce cholesterol, which supports heart health and reduces stroke risk," Avni shares....
