India, June 21 -- As the entertainment industry evolves, actor Shriya Pilgaonkar feels content is the key to piquing audiences' interest, whether around an OTT series or increasing footfall in theatres. The actor, who was last seen in the latest season of Taaza Khabar, notes that the streaming space has had a significant role for most artistes. "This space has incredibly written female characters and the biggest reach," she explains, adding, "I enjoy playing original characters caught in complex situations as our audience always connects with that." Ask the 36-year-old about the current lull in the industry and she describes it as a "phase of trial and error." Shriya tells us, "I view it as a period of evolution, even though the commercial aspect has been hit. Theatrical footfall has decreased because audiences want original content." She goes on to point out that there are several well-received projects on OTT with good content: "I have always believed that authentic stories and creativity never go to waste." Shriya continues, "We have seen a time of unlimited content, good, bad, all of it - but it is notable that only original ideas have worked out." Now that she's been in the industry for several years, the actor says she realises that marketing is equally as important for a project to work.
