We have to give people something worth stepping in TO theatres: Pooja
India, Oct. 15 -- This year is turning out to be fruitful for Pooja Hegde. Her performance in Retro opposite Suriya fetched good reviews, while Rajinikanth's Coolie, which she had a cameo in too performed well at the box-office, raking in big numbers.
Today, the film industry has become more unpredictable than ever before, with big names unable to guarantee hits. Pooja feels the industry needs to step up. "Yes, it's definitely more unpredictable than before. But I also think people haven't fallen out of love with the big-screen experience - they just need a reason to go back. The emotion, scale, and that sense of community is something you can't really feel sitting at home."
Pooja, who turned 35 on October 13, also has several big titles in the pipeline, including projects opposite Vijay and Varun Dhawan. At this point in her career, does the prospect of starring opposite big-ticket names - that might draw the audience to theatres - influence her decision to sign on to a certain project, we ask. "No, it doesn't," the actor replies.
She further explains, "When a film promises an experience, whether it's the story, the music, or just that larger-than-life magic - audiences will show up. Theatres will always have their place; we just have to keep giving them something worth stepping out for."...
