Trump celebrates Colbert's exit; says Fallon and Kimmel next to go

After CBS announced The Late Show with Stephen Colbert would end in May 2026, US President Donald Trump celebrated the news and hoped for Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel's shows to get cancelled too (see inset).
"I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings," wrote Trump on Truth Social.
His gloating came in the wake of CBS pulling the plug on The Late Show's decade-long run on American television. The network cited financial losses as the reason behind its decision, despite Colbert consistently leading the ratings. This development has sparked criticism and speculation, particularly given Colbert's frequent skewering of Trump. Other late-night hosts including Seth Meyers, John Oliver, Fallon, and Jon Stewart have voiced their support for Colbert and concern over what his ouster might signal for the future of political satire on television.
Among the most vocal supporters was former Late Show host David Letterman, who said, "There is no CBS with BS," a nod to both the network's name. Meanwhile, Colbert mock-angrily responded to Trump's remarks in a recent episode's opening monologue: "How dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?"
