Trend alert: Lock-et down your fave faces
India, June 7 -- Having someone's face close to you, enclosed in a piece of jewellery is not a new trend. Remember those heart-shaped lockets our mums and grandmums had? What's new is that this trend got a stylish, modern makeover!
Take, for instance, actor Nitanshi Goel, whose hair accessory at the Cannes Film Festival paid a tribute to yesteryear Bollywood icons. The pearl parandi featured miniature photoframes of Madhubala, Nargis, Meena Kumari, Nutan, Waheeda Rehman, Asha Parekh, Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Rekha, and Sridevi.
Model Ruchi Gujjar also tried the trend, albeit in a slightly more controversial manner. She made her Cannes debut with a statement necklace with pendants of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's face.
Madhulika Anchalia, co-founder of jewellery brand BeAbhika, who created Nitanshi's hair parandi, feels that jewellery is not just a piece to wear, but "a form of self-expression": "These mini photo frames were an extension in that direction. While adding photos to products isn't new, we aimed to preserve the charm and nostalgia of vintage decorative photo frames with glass fronts - keepsakes holding sentimental value even now."
This trend is not just about making a statement - it's about personalisation and telling your story with the main characters in tow. And it's not limited to just parandis and necklaces, but also rings, earrings, kaleeras, rakhis, and lumbas.
The price can range anywhere between Rs.500 and Rs.20,000, depending on the materials used, design intricacy, and level of customisation.
For others who want to take it a touch further, not with jewellery but an accessory for everyday use, Neha Balodia, of resin art brand Neha Balodia Designs, works on creating phone charms with photographs sealed inside resin. "The idea of preserving something as fleeting as a flower or a photograph in clear, glossy resin felt magical," she says, adding, "Each piece is handmade and unique, so pricing reflects the time, effort, and materials that go into making it." The starting price is Rs.200 and goes up basis complexity, size, and customisation of the piece
Neha, co-founder of jewellery brand People of Prints, offers photo frame jewellery. "We're obsessed with all things printed and personal. We started with polaroids, then magnets, then desk frames, and finally photo frame jewellery - tiny, wearable frames that let you carry your favourite faces everywhere."
Heavy on customisation, their motto is to cater to personal tastes and vibes, from vintage-style golden mini frames to sleek polaroid pendants. The best part? Be it frame earrings, polaroid necklaces, or photo strip pendants - you can simply swap out the photos to match your current mood! The price ranges from Rs.399 to Rs.1,299 depending on the customisation and style....
