Transplanting hope: 25 stories of courage
India, Aug. 23 -- Some stories remind us just how powerful hope can be. On Thursday, an event in the Capital celebrated a milestone 600 paediatric liver transplants. A book titled Transplanting Hope, co-authored by Dr Smita Malhotra and renowned doctor and medical columnist Dr Prof Anupam Sibal, was launched to mark the occasion.
Drawing from over 26 years of experience, the book shares the journeys of 25 children from around the world who underwent life-saving procedures. It captures the emotional battles, medical challenges, and moments of hope that define each story. The evening opened with Dr Sibal's meditations on the book. "When you are standing beside a child whose life is hanging by a thread, you realise that medicine is not just about science, it is about humanity, courage, and hope," he said.
Head coach of the India cricket team, Gautam Gambhir also applauded the spirit of courage. Gambhir, who wrote the book's foreword, said, "These are not just 25 stories of liver transplantation, but 25 sagas of hope, courage, and human perseverance against all odds. The best part is, like cricket, every story is real, nothing is orchestrated."...
