Taapsee Pannu calls AQI crisis inevitable, says clean air cannot be a luxury

ctor Taapsee Pannu, who grew up in Delhi and now lives in Mumbai, says the alarming air-quality levels in both cities come as no surprise. With AQI readings touching hazardous levels over the past week, she says the crisis was "inevitable".
"It's not like we didn't see this coming," Taapsee tells us, adding, "Anyone who says they weren't anticipating this was either unreasonably optimistic or living under a rock."
The actor, who has been vocal about environmental issues, adds that clean air is a fundamental right, not a privilege. "I wonder what we are working so hard for when we cannot even afford clean air," she says. "We are putting ourselves through inhuman conditions, especially the older generation and the ones who will come after us. People who have the means will slowly start moving to places where basic living is possible. As always, it is the poor and marginalised who will suffer the most because they have nowhere else to go," the actor adds.
Taapsee urges governments and citizens to treat public health and environmental protection as urgent priorities.
On Sunday, Mumbai's air quality stayed largely in the Unhealthy category (151-200 AQI) across most locations. Delhi recorded significantly worse levels, with many areas falling in the Severe (301-400) or Very Poor (201-300) categories....
