Surveen Chawla on why she has been choosing OTT over films

urveen Chawla is riding a wave of momentum in the streaming space, juggling multiple OTT releases, including the recent Rana Naidu season 2 and Criminal Justice: A Family Matter. But eagle-eyed fans might've noticed something - the actor hasn't been seen in a theatrical release since 2017. Ask her why, and she shares: "It's not like the film offers weren't coming in - they were," she says, explaining, "I had to turn them down. I tried, honestly, but the roles weren't compelling enough for me to say, 'Chalo, let's do it for the buck,' or just for the sake of staying visible. I feel incredibly fortunate that I've been able to sustain myself without having to take up work that didn't creatively satisfy me."
Surveen, who was seen in films such as Ugly (2013) and Hate Story 2 (2014), says the emergence of OTT provided a much-needed space for meaty roles and meaningful content: "I worked on all these streaming projects over time. I shot for Rana Naidu last year; Decoupled was even earlier. I'm okay with waiting - I'd rather be part of something that excites me creatively than be on a set just to stay busy."
As she gears up for her next web series, she is clear about the kind of work she wants to do: "When I say 'good setup', I don't mean perfection. I mean something that gives me creative satisfaction. I just can't do anything half-heartedly."...
