Student gets admission to DU's Hansraj College, but parents refuse over pollution
India, July 22 -- Every student has a dream college - be it in Delhi University (DU) or elsewhere. Some make it, and others don't. But for a youngster in Chandigarh, a unique challenge has presented itself.
Reddit user u/TurnoverWeak9601 took to the platform to share his helplessness (see right). The original poster (OP) wrote a lengthy post on the Delhi subreddit about how they cracked admission to Hansraj College - among the top colleges in DU - only for their parents to refuse this move. The reason? The high AQI and pollution levels in the Capital.
Seeking advice from the community, OP asked commenters for tips to change their parents' decision so as not to "let this opportunity slip away".
The post gained widespread attention across social media platforms, and several commenters expressed empathy and frustration. One advised, "Explain them that getting into it and wasting that opportunity would be stupidity." Another chimed in: "If this is their excuse for not sending you to college, they better be rich and not expect you to get a job!" A third user attempted to ease the concern, saying, "Bro, you're going to miss out on a lot if you don't come here... I agree pollution is a major problem, but it's only bad for about three months. Just look at the AQI now." A user added, "If they're not letting you come here because of pollution, that's a bad reason. There should be some substantial reason for not letting you come to Delhi.
