Shriya raises alarmover fakeprofiles and AI-morphed images
India, Nov. 24 -- A
ctor Shriya Saran has become the latest celebrity to face online impersonation, days after Aditi Rao Hydari called out a fake account posing as her. Shriya tells us that an unknown person recently impersonated her and began messaging people from the industry:
"Everyone I know, anyone I've tagged or spoken to, started writing to me saying it doesn't look like me. Somebody was trying to connect pretending to be me." Initially, she didn't want to react publicly, but the impersonator began sending inappropriate messages. "It was getting out of hand," she adds.
Shriya reported the matter to cybercrime and publicly clarified that the messages circulating were not from her. "We told cybercrime, we told people, and made it clear it's not me. I just hope no one gets fooled," she says.
While she has previously seen fake WhatsApp DPs and morphed photos, she says this is the first time someone impersonated her so directly. "Almost every day I see a picture of mine that isn't me, somebody else's body with my face. Even my family sometimes gets fooled. It's becoming hard to tell what's real," she says, adding that AI-generated images have made the situation worse.
Shriya also points to several Instagram profiles using her photos alongside a fake blue tick to appear verified. "Verification can be bought now. You'll never know," she says, adding that while some celebrities take legal action, there is only so much one can practically do: "You can't stop people from being stupid."...
