Scarlett, Adam's fighting scene from Marriage Story used to scare wolves, save cattle in US
India, Aug. 7 -- In an unusual attempt to ward off wolves attacking livestock, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has begun using scenes from Hollywood films as an audio deterrent. This includes an intense shouting match between actors Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in the highly acclaimed award-winning film Marriage Story (2019).
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, the USDA is now deploying drones fitted with thermal cameras and loudspeakers across farmlands in the American West. These drones play alarming sounds - including fireworks, gunshots, loud rock music, and even emotionally charged movie clips - to frighten off wolves.
The scene from Marriage Story, directed by Noah Baumbach, shows Scarlett and Adam portray a couple in the midst of a bitter divorce. The raw emotion in the scene appears to have found an unexpected second life in predator control.
"I need the wolves to respond and know that, hey, humans are bad," a USDA district supervisor based in Oregon told the publication.
Also in the playlist is Australian rock band AC/DC's high-energy hit track Thunderstruck (1990), blasted from the sky as part of the hazing efforts.
The tactic comes amid an uptick in wolf attacks, particularly in Oregon, where 11 cows were killed over 20 days, as per the report. After drones were deployed, only two cows were reportedly lost over the next 85 days, suggesting that the strategy may have been effective.htc...
