Ocean odyssey: Art meets mixed media
India, Sept. 13 -- For centuries, the sea has carried stories, traditions, and shared heritage across shores. This theme came alive at Voyages: The Ancient Maritime Silk Route, an exhibition by textile artist Gunjan Jain and mural painter Suresh Muthukulam at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, Delhi. The preview drew a vibrant crowd of artists and art lovers.
The showcase explored maritime exchanges between Kalinga, Malabar, and Southeast Asia. The artists' collaboration featured textiles, murals, paintings, rice paper, and wooden sculptures, with the ocean and mythical creatures as recurring motifs.
Speaking at the preview, curator Jaya Mani said, "Gunjan's deep engagement with Odisha's weaving traditions and Suresh's openness to explore new mediums created an extraordinary dialogue. The theme of maritime voyages became the perfect anchor to bring together weaving and painting." HTC...
