India, May 7 -- The Embassy of Sweden in Delhi celebrated the legacy of the late Swedish inventor and Nobel Prize founder, Alfred Nobel, by unveiling his portrait made by Swedish artist Fabian Edelstam on Monday. The event honouring the chemist-industrialist was held at the residence of Jan Thesleff, Ambassador of Sweden to India. "With this portrait of Alfred, I wanted to move beyond the familiar image and instead capture something more introspective," said Edelstam, whose practice is rooted in memory, history, and the afterlife of influential figures. Presenting his new work for the first time, Edelstam shared, "I work with portraits as a way of depicting life and history, and try to understand how individuals are remembered while their presence continues beyond their time." His artworks combine photography and paintings into a mixed media format that reflect on legacy and memory and are created using a mosaic-like approach. In addition to the portrait of Nobel, Edelstam has also created artworks featuring prominent Indian personalities such as Mahatma Gandhi, and popular Bollywood actors including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonali Bendre, Manisha Koirala and Juhi Chawla Mehta. Swedish ambassador Jan Thesleff shares, "These will be put up at my residence here in India as we strengthen the bond between the cultures of our countries. There is a link that really binds us together, and this is one way of celebrating that shared legacy... Fabian has created something truly remarkable in the memory of Alfred Nobel."...
