India, Nov. 16 -- Actor Girija Oak Godbole, who recently went viral for her blue saree look, has spoken out against the circulation of AI-morphed images and videos of her online. She shared video messages on Instagram in Hindi, English and Marathi, acknowledging both the positive attention and the darker side of sudden online fame. "I'm someone who lives in this digital age. I use social media myself, so I understand how it works. When something goes viral or starts trending, these kinds of images usually get made and circulated," she said, adding, "Many of my friends, relatives, and acquaintances have been sending me posts and memes. Some of them are ridiculously funny and very creative, but some are AI-morphed images of me that are not in good taste. They sexualise and objectify me, and it makes me uncomfortable." Girija also expressed a profound personal concern, adding that she has a 12-year-old son and fears that as he grows up and accesses social media, he may come across these manipulated images of his mother. "These obscene images of his mother are something he will see one day. He'll know they're not real - they're AI-generated. But they still give people a cheap thrill, a kind of titillation. That is scary." She appealed to those creating or consuming such content: "If you are someone who uses AI to morph images of women, men, or anyone into something that's not appropriate, then you should think twice. If you're not somebody who edits these kinds of images. but you are somebody who likes seeing these kinds of images on social media, then you are also part of the problem." htc...
