Muzaffar Ali's next will be based on poet Rumi
India, Dec. 6 -- Filmmaker Muzaffar Ali's career stands tall on the shoulders of two classics- Gaman (1978) and Umrao Jaan (1981). But over the years, one wonders why he has not donned the director's hat yet again. The last time he did it was exactly 10 years back- Jaanisaar.
However, now we learn that he is keen to get back. A script close to his heart has been on the life of Persian poet Rumi. "I have been working on a script on Rumi for eight-nine years," he confirms.
But the reason for his limited work has been to not give in to the conventions. The 81-year-old adds, "I can come back to direction, but not at the cost of my freedom. If somebody is willing to invest in my film then, that should work. Films are a huge medium, we have no idea. We use it to debase people, or uplift them, any which way we want."...
