India, Nov. 3 -- Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has stunned fans with his blunt take on his cult classic Gangs of Wasseypur. Speaking on a podcast with Digital Documentary, he said, "Mujhe Wasseypur se sakht nafrat hai. Jab bhi koi aadmi bolta hai na, 'Sir Wasseypur', mann karta hai joota utarkar maarun."
The 53-year-old explained that his frustration stems not from the film but from the audience's apathy during its release. "Jab Wasseypur release hui, tab toh tumne dekhi nahin. Chaar din chali thi theatre mein. Phir cinema hall mein Ek Tha Tiger (2012) aa gayi. Chaar din mein uss picture ne Rs.22 crore kamaye. Studio usko flop bolta hai, aur uss film ko lekar aap chahte ho ki main dobara banaun? Kyun banaun main?" he said, adding that if viewers had supported such films in theatres, "Mera ghar usse chal raha hota."
Released in two parts in 2012, Gangs of Wasseypur earned a cult status despite an underwhelming box office run. htc...
