Mary Kom to Lata Mangeshkar: Women icons inspire this pandal

oddess Durga, revered as the embodiment of strength, power, and womanhood, takes centre stage at the Vaishali Kalibari Cultural Association's Durga Puja celebrations. This year, the committee has chosen women empowerment as its central theme, weaving it into both the idol and the pandal's artistic narrative.
"The Durga idol is 10ft tall and crafted by the finest artisans from Bengal," shares Subrata Majumdar, chairperson of the committee, adding, "Our pandal decorators from West Bengal have designed the entire space to honour eminent women personalities from the 19th century to the 21st century. From Olympic boxer Mary Kom to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, and women officers of the Armed Forces who served during Operation Sindoor, the theme highlights icons across diverse fields."
Beyond its striking visuals, the pandal is a hub of community engagement. A series of cultural activities, ranging from drawing competitions and conch blowing to musical chairs, are being organised during the four-day festivities.
