India, Nov. 25 -- I n the months leading up to Ikkis, the film that would become his final screen appearance, Dharmendra received a reminder of the unmatched love he inspired. During the Lucknow schedule in October 2023, crowds filled the lanes of Qaiserbagh and Lalbagh for hours, sometimes bringing traffic to a halt, simply to catch a glimpse of him. Line-producer Aroon Singh Dicky, who managed the shoot, still recalls the frenzy. "I have never in my life seen such a fan following. I saw people, including elderly women, kissing the chair he was sitting on and picking up mud from his footprints to apply on their foreheads. Dharamji ek jhalak dekhne ko log dewaane the!" But what struck the crew just as much was Dharmendra's humility. "He was so humble - he would start talking to anyone and acknowledged his fans with an open heart," Singh says, adding, "For me, it was a dream come true. He is humble to the core.
