Lost 28 kg, kept it off for 17 years: Fitness coach shares his hack
India, Sept. 7 -- Quick fixes like extreme cardio and calorie-cutting may help you lose weight fast, but they often leave you drained. Real weight management is about building strength, boosting metabolism, and finding lasting balance. In a recent Insta post, fitness coach Raj Ganpath, who lost 28 kg in 2008, shared five hacks that have helped him maintain his weight for 17 years. His secret? No gimmicks, just consistency with the basics.
The fitness coach called strength training an "absolute gamechanger." Cardio alone wasn't enough to build strength. Once he added strength training, he gained muscle and boosted his metabolism, improving his overall fitness. Raj said, "As a result, I ate more good food, more protein, more vegetables. I started feeling stronger. My body composition, my fitness, my health, everything started improving."
Raj strongly advocateed walking to boost fitness and maintain weight, recommending 10,000 to 15,000 steps daily. He said, "No matter what was happening in my life, I made sure to walk 10 to 15,000 steps every day." Though it may not seem like much daily, consistently hitting that target adds up, delivering lasting health benefits. Raj added, "Walking 10 to 15,000 steps daily means about 4 million steps a year, and over 17 years, that's more than 50 million steps."
Eating smart played a significant role in Raj's fitness journey. "More protein and vegetables, less starch, sugars, and fat," he said. "Embracing hunger, being patient, being mindful, the kind of stuff that I coach." He also added that consistency is key. Regulating what you're eating and incorporating the nutrients recommended by the coach regularly in your diet can help significantly.
Getting enough sleep greatly boosts energy and performance. The fitness expert explained, "When I don't sleep enough, I feel tired. I feel less motivated to go and exercise and push myself or even be active." Good sleep also sharpens cognitive function. He added, "By sleeping well on most days, about 90 to 95 percent of the days, I wake up feeling fresh. I wake up feeling alert. As a result of which I'm able to do all the other things that I just spoke about."...
