KD The Devil director's wife calls Sarke Chunar outrage 'selective outrage'
India, March 19 -- Rakshita, former actor and wife of filmmaker Prem, has spoken out against what she calls "selective outrage" over the song Sarke Chunar Teri Sarke from his upcoming film KD: The Devil. The song, featuring Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, received backlash over its vulgar lyrics and suggestive choreography, and was later pulled down and banned across streaming platforms.
In a series of posts on Instagram Stories, Rakshita wrote, "My stand on whether I am for it or against it doesn't matter, when songs such as Peelings, Dreamum Wakeupum, Choli ke Peeche or hundreds like these came out, it seemed fine?"
Without naming any specific film, she added: "When an entire film came out talking about how the actors just spoke about having sexual intercourse throughout the film it seemed fine. But one song creates massive news. still not justifying, just asking so I can understand this."
Rakshita also mentioned that one song should not be used to question the writer's entire body of work. While acknowledging the fact that people have the right to question the writer, she also lashed out at people who resort to abusive language.
"Songs are made everyday, bad, good, provocative, special numbers. Today people are watching more bloodshed films, sexual content in films, everything pretty openly.You all have the rights on him, to question him, to tell him what is right and what is not, but saying anything about his past work about how gimmicky he [is, is not right]," she wrote, adding, "Selling a film to OTT is the biggest challenge for a Kannada director.
