JLo still 'haunted' by TURNING DOWN ROLE THAT GOT OSCAR NOM
India, Oct. 17 -- Current buzz suggests that actor-singer Jennifer Lopez's latest film Kiss of the Spider Woman might earn her an Oscar nomination. But it might not be common knowledge that JLo once turned down a role that ultimately earned another actor a nod from the Academy.
"Adrian Lyne offered me Unfaithful (2002). I turned it down because the script wasn't good. And then he made it great! And Diane Lane got nominated for the Oscar," she told radio host Howard Stern.
Diane was nominated in the Best Actress category at the 75th Academy Awards in 2003, along with Nicole Kidman (The Hours), Julianne Moore (Far From Heaven), Salma Hayek (Frida) and Renee Zellweger (Chicago). Nicole ended up winning the Oscar that year; Jennifer is yet to earn an Oscar nomination.
As for Unfaithful, the steamy thriller that followed the unraveling of a suburban couple's marriage and starred Richard Gere and Diane in lead roles. Olivier Martinez and Michelle Monaghan also featured in the project, which earned $119 million worldwide.
When Howard asked Jennifer if the decision is "hard to live with", the 56-year-old answered, "It's funny. It haunts me a little bit. It's like the one that I turned down that it was just like, 'Why did you turn down working with Adrian Lyne? What were you thinking?' I didn't even know what the hell was going on in my mind at the time. Who knows what was going on with me at the time."
At the time, Jennifer was juggling her music and acting career, dotted with recent releases such as The Wedding Planner with Matthew McConaughey and Angel Eyes with Jim Caviezel (both 2001).
Around the time Unfaithful was released, the actor-singer had such films as 2002's Enough, Maid in Manhattan and the 2003 Gigli, the latter of which proved to be one of the biggest box office disappointments in her career.htc...
