New Delhi, May 5 -- Remember those mime artists who used to be the centre of attraction in events and gatherings, including birthday parties and weddings? Did you say, no? Well, have you ever enjoyed watching legendary actor Charlie Chaplin's mime, slapstick and other visual comedy routines on the telly? No? Well, if you are one of those who don't remember or relate to this at any level, it's because the presence of mime artists abroad as well as in India is fading at a rapid pace. On World Laughter Day today, we bring you the story of one such mime artist from the Behrupiya community, Kishan Behrupiya, who spreads cheer and happiness in return for a disrespect, and a few pennies. I am the seventh generation from my family to have been doing this work. Nobody taught us acting, makeup, dancing and singing. We picked it up from our fathers and forefathers. I remember my father only taught me a few mudras and techniques of voice modulation and the rest I learnt on my own," says Kishan who has three sons and all of them are behrupiyas too....
