I was a little awkward romancing on screen: Chunkypanday
India, July 7 -- Actor Chunky Panday has had two releases in the last two months - The Royals and Detective Sherdil. And his venture into romance with co-star Sakshi Tanwar in the former became a talking point. The senior generation getting a romantic arc onscreen is rare, and the 62-year-old is glad he got to be a part of it. But it was not without its challenges.
"I was a little awkward, not that there were any lovemaking or hot scenes. But there was awkwardness because romance is not my cup of tea," he shares.
Though he initially struggled, Chunky was motivated by "the female energy on set": "The director, DOP and even the producer were women, and they kind of got that romance out of me. But I admit I'm not good at it."
And it paid off. The actor was hailed by the audience for his role. But his wife, reality TV star Bhavana Pandey, had an unexpected reaction. "My wife was laughing when she saw me. She couldn't imagine me being romantic! She is always critical of my work," he shares.
Off-screen, he recently got to perform on stage with his daughter (actor) Ananya Panday at an award show, where she paid a heartfelt surprise tribute to him: "She was talking about someone who made her laugh since she was a child. So, I thought she was talking about Shah Rukh Khan (actor). Then she burst into a Neelam (actor) song from one of my films, so I thought maybe she was doing a tribute to Neelam. Then suddenly, it turned into all my songs! For me that was like a lifetime achievement award."...
