India, Oct. 29 -- Two days after actor Chiranjeevi lodged a complaint against cybercriminals for morphing and circulating AI-generated deepfake videos featuring him in obscene content, Hyderabad Police confirmed that an investigation is underway, promising strict action against those found guilty.
Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar noted that cases of morphed and deepfake content are rising, particularly those targeting celebrities. He said, "We are tracing the sources of the deepfake content... A special investigation team has been formed to probe such cases using advanced technological tools."
In his complaint, Chiranjeevi (70) stated that the circulation of such content has caused him "severe and irreparable harm": "These manufactured videos are being maliciously used to portray me in obscene and vulgar contexts, thereby distorting public perception and undermining decades of goodwill... creating a false and defamatory narrative that contradicts my true character and public image," Chiranjeevi said in his complaint to the police.
Notably, the actor had been granted protection of his personality rights by the Hyderabad High Court last week. htc...
