Hansraj College fest fiasco: Chaos, physical violence and brawls take centre stage

hat was meant to be a grand finale at Delhi University's (DU) Hansraj College fest, Confluence'26, on Thursday quickly spiralled into chaos, as disorder broke out on North Campus just before singer-music producer Vilen took the stage.
Several videos on social media (inset) show students involved in multiple fights outside the college, while rumours of a stabbing incident also circulated.
Abhijeet Singh, president of the college's students' union shares, "There were close to 25,000 people at the college, a lot of them outsiders. The college administration was not as involved in the organisation, as they saw it more as something the students' union could run."
College principal, Rama adds, "We were avoiding an artiste performance uptil now because such brawls are not uncommon at fests. But the students' union was not willing to listen and they protested. Then the DUSU got involved, making it a much larger issue."
She adds, "It's about time that DU curtails artiste performances at college fests otherwise such scenes will continue to happen."...
