Genelia Deshmukh backs fixed working hours
India, Aug. 31 -- G
enelia Deshmukh has been in films for over two decades, but the actor admits the early years were far from easy. Juggling multiple industries often meant long and exhausting schedules. "I have gone to the extent of even working 20 hours on certain days because I was part of four industries. Very often I had to leave one shoot to reach another immediately. I've had it very tough actually initially," she recalls.
The actor, who was recently seen in Sitaare Zameen Par, says that phase taught her the importance of balance. Today, she has set firm boundaries, working a maximum of 10 hours a day. "Now I feel that I can give 10 hours totally and completely without any distraction," she says, adding that she ensures her home life doesn't spill into work, or vice versa.
Genelia also weighed in on the industry-wide debate over working hours, which gained attention after reports of Deepika Padukone asking for a fixed-hour schedule went viral. "I'm very open about the fact that this is how I function, so it's the producer or director's choice to take me. I've never been late, I don't believe in being late, I have no tantrums, I'm on set all the time. But I do feel that sometimes films get stretched and you can't give your best," she explains.
While she prefers a 10-hour day, Genelia clarifies she is flexible when required. "If there's a day or two where the director requires an extra hour or two, and if it's pre-told, I will understand that. It's a conversation - it's not your way or the highway," she signs off....
