India, April 10 -- Author Banu Mushtaq's short story collection Heart Lamp, translated from Kannada by Deepa Bhasthi, was recently named in the 2025 International Booker Prize shortlist. Over 12 stories, written between 1990 and 2023, Banu spotlights the struggles of Indian Muslim women navigating familial, patriarchal, and societal expectations. The book, competing with six titles for Rs.55,43,755 (£ 50,000), is the first Kannada-language work shortlisted for the award.
