Dibyendu hopes Dev.D re-release connects with Gen Z
India, April 16 -- Actor Dibyendu Bhattacharya may be widely recognised today for his OTT work in projects such as Undekhi, Poacher and Delhi Crime, but it was his role as Chunnilal in Anurag Kashyap's Dev.D (2009) that brought him critical acclaim. As the film returns to theatres, he hopes a new generation will discover both the film and his journey.
"Dev.D was a cult film, and people truly appreciated its effort when it released. I still meet viewers who've watched it 13-14 times and call it a beautiful film," he says.
The 50-year-old actor, recently seen in the web show Maamla Legal Hai 2, adds, "I believe it's Anurag's best work. I feel fortunate to have been part of it. I hope Gen Z watches it now and realises how long my journey has been."
Also starring Abhay Deol, Kalki Koechlin and Mahie Gill, Dev.D is set for a re-release on April 24.
Dibyendu, who is also working on singer Arijit Singh's directorial debut project, believes he has evolved as a person. "I think I've grown as a human being, whether I'm a 'good' one or not, I'm still figuring out," he says. "I've been fortunate to be part of some really good shows. The love and generosity people have shown me, I try to honour that through my craft....
