Dharma denies plagiarism claim by author over Homebound

harma Productions has denied author and journalist Puja Changoiwala's allegation that its film Homebound directed by Neeraj Ghaywan plagiarises her 2021 novel of the same name, calling the claims "baseless and unfounded". The production house also confirmed it had received a legal notice from Changoiwala in October.
In a statement shared with HT, a Dharma spokesperson said Homebound is "an officially licensed adaptation inspired by the New York Times article by Basharat Peer, with all requisite rights lawfully acquired and due credit duly provided".
The company added that while it has replied to the author's notice, it has not yet received any formal intimation regarding the legal proceedings Changoiwala says she has initiated in the Bombay High Court: "We have become aware through media reports of an alleged pre-suit mediation. We take such allegations seriously and are exploring legal action at our end to protect the integrity of our film."
Earlier, Changoiwala told HT she has moved legally against Dharma Productions, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla and Netflix India, alleging the movie, which is India's official Oscar entry, reproduces "substantial portions" of her novel, including scenes, dialogue and narrative structure....
