India, Sept. 3 -- Takahiro Sakurai, the voice behind the popular Demon Slayer character Giyu Tomioka, says that he is "touched" by the love fans have shown the anime and subsequent films. Ahead of the India release of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1, Sakurai tells us that he is "very excited" for fans to see the film. An adaptation of the popular Demon Slayer manga, the anime has been breaking records in Japan and across Europe. Ask him about the film's reception and the voice actor shares, "I went to France for promotions and was touched by the excitement non-Japanese fans had before the film came out. I cannot wait for all international fans to see this film; I feel they will connect with my character a lot more once they have finished watching it." For a franchise that is rooted in Japanese folklore and culture, it has become a global phenomenon with a loyal fanbase. Sakurai feels the series' "unique craftsmanship" is what has resonated with people worldwide. "I believe that we are really good at reproducing pretty much from all over the world, while keeping the 'Japanese-ness' very much there," he muses, adding, "It's about creating something that would be relevant somewhere else. This is what draws everyone to the anime, be it fans in France, Singapore, or India." As the conversation shifts to Indian fans, Sakurai admits that he himself is a fan of actor Rajinikanth. Would he ever give his voice to the Japanese dub of a Rajinikanth project? "I don't think I will be able to. He has a very solid presence and a deep voice. I don't think my voice will suit him," he laughs. However, he doesn't discount ever working on an Indian project: "I would love to know actors from India whom my voice could suit." What about his favourite Indian films? "Rajinikanth's Muthu (1995), RRR (2022), and the Baahubali films are my favourites," he replies. Muthu had become a sensation in Japan, earning ੔,00,000 (approximately Rs.2.37 lakh), holding the record as the highest-grossing Indian film for 25 years until it was surpassed by RRR, which grossed ੒.4 million (approximately Rs.14.2 lakh)....
