Delhi meets Dhaka in threads of tradition

rom heritage to haute, the Jamdani's enduring charm was celebrated at a special showcase in Delhi. The Bangladesh High Commission hosted an exhibition dedicated to the legendary weave, curated by textile revivalist Chandrashekhar Bheda. On display were handwoven sarees from Narayanganj, including a 150-year-old Jamdani sourced by High Commissioner M Riaz Hamidullah from a Delhi collector.
"The Jamdani weave epitomises the India-Bangladesh relationship; it embodies a shared heritage," said Hamidullah. Echoing the sentiment, architectural conservationist and designer Sunita Kohli said, "Sometimes it takes longer for a Jamdani than to bring up a building. While the building stands on the ground, the Jamdani floats in air."...
