India, May 24 -- Dipshikkha Nagpal has spent almost three decades in the film industry, having debuted in Betaaj Badshah in 1994. But while she found recognition with Koyla (1997), she soon shifted focus to Gujarati and Marathi films. Ask the actor, who is now set to appear in the bilingual film Tiger of Rajasthan, why she chose to branch out into regional cinema and she replies, "I started getting typecast in negative and glamorous roles." "Back then, heroines were expected to be very simple, so I was often labelled a 'vamp' - which I didn't like. It was frustrating," the 47-year-old explains. "Language has never been a barrier for me. So when Gujarati films came to me with leading roles, there was more potential and substantial work. That is why I started doing regional movies," adds Dipshikkha who made her Gujarati film debut in 1999 with the film Maa Baap Ne Bhulso Nahi. A year later, she also starred in the Punjabi film Dard Pardesaan De (2000). The actor, also known for her roles in television shows such as Son Pari and Kittie Party, tells us that she has also been exploring OTT. How has the rise of streaming affected the regional film industry? "With OTT platforms gaining popularity, regional cinema has also become big. It's a great thing because sometimes releasing films in theatres is expensive for producers," she concludes....
