Boney, daughters move Madras HC over Sridevi's Chennai property dispute
India, March 19 -- Producer Boney Kapoor, along with daughters Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor, has approached the Madras High Court seeking protection of a Chennai property that belonged to late actor Sridevi. The move comes after an Additional District Judge in Chengalpattu refused to reject a plaint filed in connection with the property near East Coast Road.
As per Live Law, the court has stayed further proceedings before the district court and is set to hear the Kapoor family's civil revision petition on March 26.
The dispute stems from a suit filed by a woman, Chandrabanu, along with her two children, who have claimed a share in the 4.7-acre property. The plaintiffs have sought to declare four sale deeds, through which Sridevi and her sister acquired the land in 1988, as null and void, alleging fraud and asserting ancestral rights.
Boney had earlier challenged the plea, terming it legally untenable and alleging suppression of key facts. He also questioned the delay in filing the suit after nearly four decades, arguing that the claim is barred by limitation.
