Art is about speaking truth: Karan Anshuman on OTT, critics

riter and show creator Karan Anshuman is best known for shaping some of India's most talked-about OTT shows, including Inside Edge, Mirzapur and Rana Naidu, the second season of which will drop this month.
While his work has found a strong following among streaming audiences, it has also attracted its share of criticism for being too bold or too raw. But Karan remains unfazed: "The kind of stories I tell... more people resonate with them than not. Of course, there will always be detractors, people who'll have something negative to say," he says, adding, "But art, in any form, is a way of speaking truth to power. That's what storytelling is for. Today, there are countless ways for people to express their opinions, but that shouldn't stop anyone from telling the story they want to tell."
The 45-year-old also points out that the process of creating a show is full of natural checks and balances. If something isn't working, the system is designed to catch it early. "Filmmaking is such a collaborative effort. If I were to say or do something that no one agreed with, I wouldn't even make it past the first draft - my co-writers would flag it, or the OTT platform would raise concerns," he explains, and adds, "That's the beauty of this medium: it begins with a vision, and then more people join in and believe in it. That tribe keeps growing through filming, post-production, and beyond."...
