India, Aug. 17 -- Actor Anupam Kher has turned his latest honour - the Raj Kapoor Award by the Maharashtra government which carries a cash prize of Rs.10 lakh - into a tribute to his late friend, filmmaker-actor Satish Kaushik. The full amount will fund the Satish Kaushik Scholarship at Anupam's acting school, supporting students in financial need. "Both of us almost came from the same economic backgrounds when we started. It would be nice to continue his legacy as an actor and his association with the school by naming the scholarship after him," the 70-year-old tells us, adding, "I got a scholarship when I was in drama school. If I had not received it, I wouldn't have been able to attend any acting school. For any person to get this kind of scholarship will give their career a boost." The actor adds that this scholarship is not just a one-time thing, but will become an annual tradition. He is also installing a statue of Satish at his school: "It's been in my office for months, facing my Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan. He once looked at my awards and playfully said, 'I am jealous of you.' Now, it's a tribute to that brilliant actor, director and to our friendship." Satish passed away in March 2023 at the age of 66 after a heart attack. Reflecting on the loss, Anupam adds, "The most permanent thing about life is death. But this way, his legacy and our friendship will live for the rest of our lives. It can inspire people and make a difference."...
