Amruta Khanvilkar on her theatre debut
India, Dec. 7 -- Rishabh Suri
After close to two decades in showbiz, Amruta Khanvilkar is set to make her debut... in a theatre play. Talking to us about how it happened, she says, "I genuinely believe there are some projects you don't choose, they choose you. And for me, Lagna Panchami is one of those blessings."
For the actor, this foray towards the stage is not entirely new. "Theatre was always somewhere in my heart. I've never shied away from taking risks or challenging myself as an actor," she shares, adding, "In fact, I even produced a dance musical, World of Stree, because I wanted to feel that connection with a live audience on stage. So the desire was always there. maybe the timing wasn't."
This play coming her way made her theatre debut possible at this stage of her career, which majorly comprises Marathi and Hindi films, including Raazi (2018) and Chandramukhi (2022).
"First, Madhugandha Kulkarni, a writer I deeply admire, believed in me. Then Nipun Dharmadhikari came on board. And suddenly, the team just kept getting better and stronger. At that moment, I felt, 'This is it, this is the right time.' More importantly, these are the right people," the 41-year-old says.
Amruta is looking at it as a refreshing experience, one which requires her to deliver her best without any retakes since it is live. "As an artiste, all you really need is a team that protects you, supports you, and pushes you towards your best with kindness in this. And I've found exactly that here. I feel like the universe listened to my little prayer and placed me where I truly belong right now - on the stage," she signs off....
