Amid feud, JK Rowling calls Emma Watson 'privileged and ignorant'
India, Oct. 1 -- Author JK Rowling has hit back at actor Emma Watson, accusing the latter of being 'privileged and ignorant' in a long X post.
This comes after Emma recently spoke about her disagreements with Rowling on Jay Shetty's podcast. The 35-year-old, who played Hermione in the Harry Potter film franchise, said, "I really don't believe that by having had that experience and holding the love and support and views that I have means that I can't and don't treasure Jo (Rowling)."
In response, the author (60) wrote on social media: "I'm not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created." She added, "The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was 21 for what opinions I should hold. Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender ideology."
According to Variety, the rift between the two began in 2020 after Emma openly disavowed Rowling's anti-transgender opinions. However, Rowling claimed that Emma had sent her a handwritten note, sympathising with her after her comments led to widespread backlash.
