India, March 15 -- Indie musician duo Banjaare are witnessing a surge in popularity after their track Bairan crossed 10 million streams on YouTube Music, driven largely by its viral spread on Instagram Reels. For Sumit, 27, one half of the brother duo, the song's success came unexpectedly. "Anuj, my younger brother, who is 24, and I were not even going to release this song. Three other tracks were ready. Then suddenly intuition aayi, ki yeh karte hain. So we decided to go with it," he tells us. The brothers initially uploaded the audio to a third-party platform while planning to shoot a music video. However, the video never came together as planned. "We gave the audio about 15 days earlier, thinking tab tak video bana laate hain. But the video never really came together. Jo pehle bani bhi, it was third-class quality," Sumit recalls. Instead of investing in promotional Reels, they decided to share the story behind the song's making through an Instagram Reel. Soon after, short clips using the audio began circulating, bringing the track wider attention. He shares, "People started looking for it. The song was already on YouTube Music, so they kept listening there. Then the algorithm picked it up." The track's popularity has also drawn attention to Haryanvi music beyond its core audience, even drawing notice from labels. "Calls from labels are coming, bilkul aa rahe hain, but they wanted a buyout," Sumit shares, adding that they did not want to sell out. "Yeh hamara baby hai. We said keep the licensing for certain years, give an advance and share profits. After some years, the rights will come back to us," he signs off....
