				India, Nov. 2 -- A
ctor Ajith Kumar has addressed the recent stampede at actor-turned-politician Vijay's political rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which left 41 people dead and over 60 injured. Speaking to Hollywood Reporter India, Ajith called the tragedy a collective failure, urging restraint from both fans and organisers.
"I'm not trying to put anybody down, but that individual (Vijay) alone is not responsible; we are all responsible for it," Ajith said. "Even the media has a part to play in this. As a society, we've become obsessed with gathering a crowd just to show your crowd. All this has to end."
Acknowledging the love he receives from his fans, the actor said that such enthusiasm must be expressed responsibly. "I have a good life because of my fans, but this love and attention need to be monitored. In the name of celebration, bursting firecrackers or damaging property must stop," he added.
Comparing fan behaviour to that of sports audiences, Ajith questioned, "You have a crowd that goes for a cricket match, but you don't see all this happening there. Why is it only in theatres or with film personalities? It projects the entire industry in a bad light. There are ways to express love without chaos."
The Karur stampede, which occurred on September 27 during a public interaction event attended by Vijay, claimed 41 lives, including women and children.
