India, May 5 -- The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) recently put together a conference called IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP, which brought together music artistes, industry professionals and senior government functionaries. Among those in attendance was screenwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar, who highlighted the need for creativity in the market and called for more experimentation by marketing departments. Lauding the Indian Performing Right Society (IPRS) as the fastest-growing society for writers and composers globally, he said, "We need security of the artistes for the security of the music industry." To make India's IP environment more robust, FICCI IPR Committee Chairman Anil Rajput announced the signing of an MoU with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to establish an IP for a Business Centre at FICCI. Speaking about the decade-long effort, he shared, "This centre will serve as a pivotal resource for Indian businesses, creators, and innovators." The event was graced by a distinguished set of dignitaries, including Culture Ministry Secretary Vivek Aggarwal, High Court of Delhi judge Justice Prathiba M Singh, Founder and Managing Director of Indian Singers and Musicians Rights Association Sanjay Tandon and Director General of the WIPO Daren Tang. Their presence underscored the government's ongoing efforts to support innovation in the music industry. Making the event memorable were performances by an artiste from the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, musician Anirudh Varma's dynamic Indian classical fusion, as well as the Bengali folk melodies of Baul Mon and singer Kartik Raman's vibrant tribute to South India's rich musical heritage. htc...
