A living legend of music and education turns 75
India, Nov. 18 -- Distinguished music director, composer and founder of Brahmanand Public School, Noida, Gautam Dasgupta, completes 75 years today. In 1988, together with his wife, Dr H Dasgupta, an ex-professor at Delhi University, Gautam initiated the establishment of the remarkable school affiliated to CBSE. Since then, he has remained an inspiring presence in the fields of music and education.
Known for his disciplined artistry and professional finesse, he represents a pivotal generation of musicians who shaped both the Indian music industry and the cultural-educational landscape.
Gautam began his professional journey in 1976 as a solo Hawaiian and Spanish guitar instrumentalist, performing widely with his band "Allegros", which gained recognition across India. His clarity of sound, technical precision established him as a respected name within the music fraternity.
His vast body of work includes collaborations with iconic voices such as Hemant Kumar, Asha Bhosle, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, among others. His vocal album Teri Chahat earned him the title "Man with the Golden Voice", and the music video was declared "Best Video of the Month" on Zee Music.
With over 200 albums, LPs and recordings spanning mainstream, devotional, classical music, his work has reached audiences across Europe, Maldives and the United Kingdom.
His contribution to education stands out for its progressive vision, emphasising that academic excellence must evolve in tandem with cultural awareness. His studio, Sound Waves (Noida), continues to nurture talent through ongoing production, collaboration and mentorship.
