A 'reel' rescue: Woman falls into drain; Delhi police step in
India, Feb. 18 -- A 22-year-old woman was pulled to safety by Delhi Police on Monday after she accidentally slipped into an uncovered drain in southwest Delhi's Najafgarh area. Officials said she had reportedly been shooting a social media reel near the spot when the incident took place.
The woman, identified as Bhawna, had gone close to the drain to film a video drawing attention to the garbage piled up near her residence. According to police, she was attempting to highlight sanitation issues and the unchecked dumping of waste when she lost her footing and fell into the water. The drain, according to locals, is often surrounded by garbage and lacks proper barricading in certain stretches.
A senior officer said that a police patrol vehicle passing by stopped immediately after hearing cries for help. By the time officers reached her, Bhawna was submerged up to her neck. Using a rope, the team managed to pull her out.
Police confirmed that she escaped without injuries and did not need medical treatment. Officers added that the episode underscores the dangers of filming content in unsafe surroundings. According to locals, parts of the drain remain poorly barricaded and are frequently lined with garbage.
