'The mystery surrounding actors has faded'
India, March 1 -- After completing a decade in showbiz, actor Aditi Rao Hydari says she's witnessed a dramatic shift in the industry, especially with social media driving instant opinions and agenda-driven narratives. "Celebrity smear campaigns aren't new," Aditi reflects, noting she's learned to observe the noise without letting it consume her.
While she's largely stayed away from controversy, she admits she's seen how negative PR and online misinformation can quietly seep into an actor's life. "I see it around me all the time. Occasionally, I come across random rubbish about myself. I ignore it because I know there's some agenda behind it," she shares.
Aditi believes the ecosystem has changed significantly since her debut in 2016 with the regional film Prajapathi. Having worked across mediums and regions, she feels the digital explosion has amplified both appreciation and toxicity. "There's so much misinformation on platforms supposed to be factual. Add paid negativity and hidden agendas, and it becomes toxic," she explains. "Sometimes, too much information is a burden. The mystery surrounding actors has faded over the years."
Aditi, last seen in Gandhi Talks, admits negativity can sting but chooses not to dwell on it. "Of course, it's hurtful when people say bad things. But focusing on that would be detrimental to my happiness," she says. Grounded by her upbringing, she recalls her mother's advice: when someone's mean, the issue lies within them. "That thought keeps me centred. I'm creative; the noise is just noise. I have to find the music in it."
In her 10 years, Aditi's developed a realistic understanding of commercial success. Despite appreciated performances in web series like Heeramandi (2024), she asserts box-office numbers don't guarantee stability, especially for those without industry backing. "Talent exists beyond success and failure," she says, adding, "But if you're an outsider, success influences opportunities. Even after a hit, you wait for the right scripts. Commercial success doesn't automatically sort your year."...
