'I've always felt like an underdog; I'm happy to bring AMA home'
India, May 29 -- American singer-songwriter and rapper Raja Kumari scripted history by becoming the first Indian-origin musician to be nominated at the American Music Awards (AMA). And now, she has won in the Favourite Soundtrack category for Arcane League of Legends: Season 2 at the 51st AMA held in Los Angeles (USA) on Monday night.
"I've felt like an underdog in a lot of situations and all eyes on the underdog - a lyric from City Slums (2016 single). I've always had to believe in myself, and this win just confirms that belief and encourages me further. I'm so excited to bring this home for India," the musician tells us.
The 39-year-old says that she added "Indian flavour into the song" to showcase her culture. "For this to win means that times are changing and people genuinely love our music," she says, emphasising, "India to the world... A whole new demographic got to hear my voice, their reactions have been so rewarding. I'm just happy to have this opportunity and to represent India on such a big stage."
Ask if she saw the win coming, and Raja Kumari says, "I felt it, like God told me it was mine. That might sound crazy, but I truly believed I could achieve it."
Elaborating more, she shares, "To succeed, you first have to visualise yourself winning. I really wanted to see it. We worked so hard on the song, and it was incredible to have it become a part of so many people's lives - through Reels, Stories, and more. I had a good feeling that it had a great chance."...
