'I'm testing how much spice Declan can handle'

he latest season of MasterChef Australia may not have handed Sarah Todd and Declan Cleary the trophy, but it did spark a new romance. The duo, now a couple, are on a nine-day India tour that's turning into a feast of food, flavours and nostalgia.
Starting in Mumbai and now in Delhi, it's Declan's first trip to the country - one he calls unforgettable thanks to "the best tour guide", Sarah. "As soon as we got off at the airport, the heat, the horns, the roadside food stalls, everything amazed me. And after 26 hours of travel, we went straight in for a thali," he laughs. Sarah chimes in, "He'd never had a thali before, so it was a double win!"
From kheer and jaggery sides to dosas and vada pav, Declan is relishing every bite. "Every time I scooped something, seven people were around to refill it," he says in awe. For Sarah, who once ran a restaurant in India, the trip is deeply personal. "There's so much nostalgia here. Sharing it with him makes me proud," she says.
While Declan experiments with thalis and street food, Sarah teases that she's "testing how much spice he can handle". Declan sums it up best: "In Australia, the only authentic Indian food I'd had was Sarah's. Here, it's an explosion of flavours, and I'm never not full!"...
