'Baking involves the whole family'

Like many home bakers, Divya Dutta's passion for baking took shape during Covid times. While lockdowns are a memory of the past, the love for whipping up goodies in her kitchen has stayed with the actor.
On World Baking Day, Divya bakes her favourite almond cake for us and spills about her love for all things sweet. "It all comes from my childhood, when my mother would prepare a pineapple cake on special days. Uss time pe toh do hi cake hote thhe - pineapple and chocolate," she reminisces, adding, "The whole thing was a fun activity. One person would be asked to make the batter, another would break the eggs. Inn sab cheezon ke baad kya nikal ke aata tha oven se... we all used to laugh! Maza aata tha lekin."
As she grew up, the actor learned to cook on her mum's insistence: "I started taking cooking classes, but all these little things get lost somewhere when you become an actor and don't get the time. For me, baking has always been a time when I put on music and get in the kitchen. So I do it whenever I can; whenever I do, it's like a celebration."
She adds that baking has become a family event for her. "My niece and nephew bake with me and we might even decide to make something at 12 in the night," she shares. The actor continues, "I love trying new recipes, and whenever I do, I either see happy or polite faces, (laughs) What I do in my work is what I do with my cakes: trial and error. I am very instinctive when it comes to baking."
What are her personal favourites? "An almond and chocolate cake, with a little bit of orange in it. This recipe comes from a friend. Something that I make really well is called wooden log, with biscuits and pudding baked together," Divya replies....
