India, Dec. 31 -- Mohit Suri's Saiyaara emerged as the highest grossing love story in the history of Indian cinema, catapulting debutantes Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda to overnight stardom. But, this level of success came as a surprise to him. "You can never plan these things. For me, the numbers meant a great sense of validation. When I started off, a few people believed that a romantic film could get these kind of numbers. In a world where everyone was making films about action, killings, which I too did in the past, I had to make a different film to stand," he tells us. From an actioner like Dhurandhar, to an animated film Mahavatar Narsimha, Mohit applauds the diversity of genres that the audience accepted: "As a filmmaker, it was a brilliant year. There were particular formulas people were tending to discuss, like sequels, and suddenly we saw all this. You cannot pinpoint and say this year only one kind of film worked."...
